Hi guys.... There may be situations at which u have trouble with ur vista systems's booting!! this happened to me when i dual booted ubuntu(linux) with vista in my lappy! I installed vista first and then ubuntu.. hence.. the grub dominated vista's boot manager... Hence.. Everytime i booted my lappy... The grub showed up ubuntu as the default OS and vista was listed under "Other Operating Systems".. I wanted the windows boot manager to be displayed and not the grub... while working on this.. i uninstalled the vista'sw MBR by mistake........ which stores the boot info in the file NTLDR!!! So.. my lappy didnt boot vista itself and showed the msg NTLDR is missing...

So... coming to the point! this was my situation of MBR failure! If you face problem with the vista MBR... then do the following! Its very simple!!

1. Put the vista dvd in the drive and restart ur machine.

2. Press F8 and boot the machine from the dvd. (The function key may vary in case u dont get the boot from dvd menu)

3. You'll receive a message saying "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD . . . "

4. Press any key.

5. You'll receive a screen "Install Windows" asking the language informaion etc. Press Next.

6. You'll receive a screen having "Install Now" in the center. Press "Repair Your Computer" in the bottom left corner.

7. You'll receive a dialog box "System Recovery Options". Choose your vista partition in the box and press Next.

8. You'll receive a dialog box with various troubleshooter issues. Select "Startup Repair" and wait for a few minutes. Your MBR will be repaired automatically!

Press Restart. You're Done! :-)
